Animals

1. What’s your favourite animal?

OK… I’d have to say that dogs are my favourite animal ‘cos they’re extremely friendly. Unlike cats, they just crave affection, and they’re really good at cheering you up.

2. Is it common to have pets in your country?

Erm… it’s not that common, no, although I think it’s getting more and more popular. People don’t really have the space or the time to raise pets these days.

3. What kinds of animal make typical pets?

Right… I guess dogs and cats are the most obvious choices for people nowadays. Dogs are good company and really affectionate, and cats are low-maintenance, I mean it doesn’t take much effort to raise them.

4. Do you have a pet?

Er, actually, I don’t have a pet at the moment. I’m pretty busy studying for the IELTS exam, so I don’t think I have time. Maybe in the future… I’d quite like a dog.

5. Did you have a pet as a child?

Yeah, I did. I used to have a hamster whose name was Rocky. He was small, reddish-brown, and fluffy. Erm… He escaped from his cage one day and we never saw him again!

6. What wild animals are there in your country?

I’m not really sure, but I’ve heard that there’re some wild boars, bears and lynxes… There might even be tigers! … And I suppose there are less interesting animals like rats, mice, deer, foxes – things like that.

7.What is the attitude of people towards animals in your country?

OK… In terms of pets, I reckon people used to be more afraid of animals like dogs and cats, especially stray ones, but nowadays people are more accustomed to those sorts of animal. I guess we don’t like vermin like rats and pigeons.

8. What do people use animals for in your country?

Well… I suppose people use animals for pets, like dogs and cats… And… We use some animals for food, especially cows and pigs. I heard Korean pork is pretty famous for being delicious.
