Museums & libraries

1. Have you ever been to any museums? What have you seen at museums?

Not many times, but yes, I’ve been to some places like the Museum of Modern Art in 과천, just outside of Seoul, and the Seoul Arts Center, and some small private art galleries in 인사동, a neighbourhood in Seoul. Erm… since I don’t have much interest in art, I don’t go to museums very often, but… when I went to Paris in France, I visited plenty of museums because they were popular tourist attractions.

2. Do you think it’s important to maintain museums?

Sure, it’s necessary to preserve museums because they enrich people’s lives… For instance, people can foster their creativity and originality by visiting those places. Plus… museums play an important role in children’s education. Although many children can experience art through the internet, museums are the only place where student can get first-hand experience.

3. What influence do museums have on people?

Well, I think museums have several beneficial effects on people… For example, people can learn about culture and history by visiting museums… And… art in museums can nourish people’s emotions and sensitivity. Also… as many museums attract a lot of visitors, there are financial benefits for society.

4. What are the advantages of maintaining public libraries?

Well, I guess public libraries play very beneficial roles in society... For instance, many people still visit libraries to gain knowledge that can’t be learned from the internet… They also usually provide students or researchers with a great academic atmosphere… As for local people, they can go there and enjoy various kinds of social activities such as movies, art collections, small concerts or a life-long education, you know, by reading books.

5. Do you think libraries will continue to exist in the future?

Erm… In the future, I believe libraries will decrease in number, but they’ll probably still exist... Due to the development of technology, the general public has unlimited access to information via the internet, but… There will always be people who enjoy the atmosphere of libraries and being surrounded by books…
