Part 2
Describe an advertisement you have seen.
You should say:
what it was
where you saw it
when you saw it
and explain why you were interested in that advert.
OK, I’m going to talk about an advertisement I saw on the internet recently, it was actually an advertisement for translating jobs online. I think I must have followed a link on an English language website or an English teaching website I was on, just out of curiosity. This was a couple of weeks ago, just when I was working at school.
The only reason I really clicked on the link was out of curiosity; it was advertising thousands of dollars a month for translating work; now I myself wouldn’t actually be able to do any translating work because I haven’t got a sufficient level of ability in any second language; but I was interested because I’m always fascinated by these online adverts that promise thousand of dollars a month and pledge to make you rich, because they’re usually scams, exaggerations or just generally a bit dubious.
So I clicked on the link and read a bit more about it, and it claimed they had an overload of work waiting, and they were desperate for translators, especially, surprise surprise, Korean to English and vice-versa.
Because it had piqued my interest, I followed up the advertisement by searching for the company online, to find out any feedback. And sure enough, as is often the case, I read plenty of negative feedback from people saying they’d signed up with this company, they’d had to pay a registration fee, and then in the end they’d received no work through them. All they’d received was a set of links for places they could look for translating work, so in fact the whole thing was really a con.
