Nature & the environment

1.  Have you ever been to the seaside?

Sure, I go every year with my family to the beach. Normally we just play games like beach ball, build sand castles, and do some sunbathing.

 2. Would you like to live in a house by the sea?

I’m a bit of a city boy so I’m not sure if I could live by the sea… I mean, it’d be quite remote, probably quite far from any cultural activities… But I guess it’d be very tranquil, and there’d be a refreshing breeze in summer.

 3. Do you enjoy gardening?

Well, I don’t have a garden so it’s hard to say… But when I was young, I used to love being in the garden… We had plenty of flowerbeds and vegetable patches. I liked planting things and nurturing them. It was very calming.

 4. Do you like having flowers in your home?

Yeah, definitely. Flowers can really brighten up a home… Sometimes their fragrance or scent is nice, too. I especially like colourful flowers like tulips, roses and carnations.

 5. Are flowers important in your culture?

Uh… I don’t know… People give flowers as a present, I mean, people give roses to their girlfriend or boyfriend as a token of affection. But… I think people all over the world do that!

 6. Are there many parks or public gardens where you live?

OK… I’m a Seoulite, and Seoul’s quite a built-up, sprawling city, so there aren’t many green spaces. Some of the apartment complexes have courtyards with benches where people can sit, though.

 7. Do you think it’s important for a city to have parks and public gardens?

Sure. City life is quite busy, stressful, and stifling because of all the crowds, but green spaces provide people with a quiet spot they can unwind in.

 8. Is the environment important to you?

Uh… To be honest, I don’t think about the environment too much, but I think I should worry about it more. It’s important to recycle and respect nature, but it’s easy to forget about those things in your everyday life.
